Alexander Golbin, M.D, Ph.D.
Alexander Golbin is Medical Director for Chicago’s Sleep and Behavior Medicine Institute and assistant professor at the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Illinois Medical Center. His professional accomplishments include 21 publications on the subjects of sleep and sleep disorders in adults and adolescents. He is also the author of: Pathological Sleep in Children (Leningrad, Nauka, 1979-1980, in Russian) and The World of Children’s Sleep (Michaelis Medical Publishing, 1995, Salt Lake City). He is the Chief Editor and author of the textbook: “Sleep Psychiatry” (Taylor & Francis Group, 2004), Editor in Chief of the web journal “Sleep and Health,” and an international lecturer on the subject of sleep neurophysiology and sleep psychiatry. Dr. Golbin also has several inventions for the treatment of sleep related disorders.
In Russia, Dr. Alexander Golbin graduated from the Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) Medical Institute, where he received his M.D. and his Ph.D. in Neurophysiology of Sleep from the internationally acclaimed Pavlov Institute of Experimental Medicine at the Russian Academy of Medical Science. He has worked as a pediatrician in Siberia and, later, for 10 years, as a pediatric and adult neuropsychiatrist at the Leningrad State Hospital. He was also Chief Neuropsychiatrist for the Northwest Region of Russia for two years. In 1981 Dr. Golbin immigrated to the United States and became a citizen in 1986.
Dr. Golbin’s American education includes an internship and residency in general neurology and psychiatry at the Illinois State Psychiatric Institute at U of I at Chicago Medical Center and at Cook County Hospital. He is a graduate of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at the Institute for Juvenile Research at U of I Medical Center as well as Sleep Fellowship at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago and the Stanford University School of Sleep Medicine in California.
Dr. Alexander Golbin has devoted his career to the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders and sleep related daytime emotional and behavioral issues in children and adults. He is also actively involved in training, education and a range of research activities. He invented several devices that are being used in clinical practice and research. He is also actively using alternative medicine in his practice and has helped develop several popular natural formulas for sleep and alertness.
